watercolor on paper, 30x42 cm, signed lower right: Irena Knothe
The artist studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under K. Tichy and T. Pruszkowski. Her work most frequently featured portraits, landscapes, and still lifes. She worked in both oil and watercolor. She held several solo exhibitions between 1946 and 1965. She also participated in group exhibitions in Stockholm and London.
The composition of the painting focuses on capturing the mood and the play of light. Although the artist did not specify an exact geographical location in the title, the spatial arrangement —a wide promenade stretching along a canal or pond (lined with a strip of red flowers) and a tall hedge on the right—strongly resembles the Royal Łazienki Park in Warsaw. This park was a constant source of inspiration for postwar artists working in the capital.
